Rules of Engagement

Rules of engagement – UK Living Kidney Donation Buddy Support Service:

  • Be aware that the conversation is around someone’s lived experience and will differ from your own and other’s experiences.
  • Your buddy will not provide medical or clinical advice. Please do not ask questions of a clinical or medical nature. Your buddy will advise you to contact your living donor co-ordinator for any questions they are unable to answer.
  • Specific worries or concerns should also be communicated to your living donor co-ordinator
  • Contact with your buddy must be made through the online platform only – we encourage you not to give out any additional personal information.
  • Any meetings held outside of the platform will not be under the responsibility of the partnership.
  • Ensure your communication is respectful of all views and beliefs.
  • No abusive verbal or non-verbal communication.
  • Ensure when you’re on a call, you are able to focus fully on the conversation and not have distractions.
  • Try to hold the meeting somewhere quiet and private so the call is kept confidential
  • Please be aware of other commitments your buddy may have and only book sessions that required. The session duration is 40 minutes maximum.
  • The buddy should not coerce someone into the consideration of living kidney donation. If you feel this is happening, please inform the Relationship Manager at enquiries@donateakidney.co.uk
  • If you feel that the person you are speaking to is being inappropriate or abusive, immediately end the call and inform the Relationship Manager at enquiries@donateakidney.co.uk
  • If you are concerned for the safety or wellbeing of the person you are speaking with, please inform the Relationship Manager at enquiries@donateakdiney.co.uk
