Support before and during donation
WE’RE HERE TO HELP, OR CONNECT YOU TO OTHER SOURCES OF SUPPORT
There is always support available, no matter where you are in your donation journey – whether you are still considering if donating is right for you, through to post-donation and follow-up support. This includes support for your physical health, as well as your mental health and wellbeing.
SPEAK TO OUR DONATION RELATIONSHIP MANAGER
Our Donation Relationship Manager is available to talk to you about what donation involves, and the support available to you.
Visit our Contact Us page to leave a message or arrange a conversation.
THE UK LIVING KIDNEY DONATION BUDDY SUPPORT SERVICE
We know that support can be essential, both before and during the donation process.
The UK Living Kidney Donation Buddy Support Service allows anyone interested in learning more about living kidney donation to speak with someone who has lived experience of donating a kidney. This service offers a secure and safe place for open conversations with someone who understands that journey.
Visit our webpage on Requesting a Buddy for more information.
OTHER SOURCES OF INFORMATION AND SUPPORT
You can check the latest professional guidelines for kidney transplants on the British Transplantation Society website here. The current Living Donor Kidney Transplantation Guidance was published in June 2018. These guidelines are aimed at clinical teams, but you can discuss any aspect of these further with your Living Donor Coordinator should you wish to.
WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND?
Volunteering to become a donor is entirely your choice every step of the way. Sometimes people decide that donating is not for them partway through the assessment process, which is completely fine.
The journey between volunteering to donate and actually donating can be a difficult and emotional one. You should remember you are free to change your mind at any point. The transplant team wants you to be comfortable with the choice you make and will be supportive and respectful of any decision you make along the journey, even if you decide that donating is not right for you.
It is important that you keep everyone updated about how you are feeling throughout the process rather than bottling up any fears or worries you may have.
